Composts

Revitalizer™ Compost

Great forests and prairies have been growing on Earth for thousands of years with no feeding, watering or pest control by humans. The one thing they have in common is compost—nature's way of nourishing, healing and protecting all plants. Different plants, depending on their origin, prefer the characteristics of a bacterial or mostly fungal compost. Revitalizer™ is a custom blend of humus and manure composts to ensure a wide array of beneficial fungal and bacterial microorganisms. Revitalizer™ is great for mixing into tired or tight soils for bed preparation, or you can use it to top-dress a lawn. Revitalizer™ Compost is a Lady Bug Natural Brand Product.

Manure Compost

Years ago farmers replenished their soil with manure from their farm animals. Today, not many of us have cattle around to collect the manure, but we can buy Manure Compost. The compost is a mixture of cow manure blended with bedding material and vegetable waste. It is composted in large rows to produce a nutrient-rich, weed-free, and pest-free product that your soil will love. It is great for invigorating your vegetable garden or for top-dressing your lawn.

Farm Style Compost

Farm Style Compost is composted manure from grass fed dairy cows, blended with a carbon source. This compost keeps the soil fluffy longer than other typesof composts. Contains the right microbes for topdressing lawns, side-dressing the vegetable garden, and planting annuals. A LADY BUG NATURAL BRAND™ original.

Soils

Hill Country Garden Soil

Hill Country Garden Soil is a ready-to-go garden soil. Just add plants, fertilizer and water. The Hill Country Garden is a mix of reclaimed composted topsoil, composted rice hull, decomposed granite and a special blend of composts. It is this compost blend that makes this soil so versatile, as it provides a variety of microbes and nutrients that benefit a wide range of plants. This means that you can grow almost any type of plant in this soil. It is great for natives, perennials, herbs, shrubs, even vegetables. The decomposed granite adds trace minerals and aids the soil drainage. If you are planting very acid-loving plants or cacti, we can recommend amendments that can be added to the Hill Country Garden Soil to make your plants thrive. Hill Country Garden Soil is a Lady Bug Natural Brand Product.

Rose Magic Soil

Tested by many rose growers and given great reviews! Your roses and other plants are sure to thrive. Use either100% or as a 50/50 blend with your native soil. A LADY BUG NATURAL BRAND™ original.

Mulches

Sylvan Formula™

The Sylvan Formula™ is a pro-active approach to establishing and keeping your trees and shrubs healthy. The formula has been developed to replicate the forest floor. In nature, the forest floor feeds and tends to the needs of the trees and plants without the help of humans. The Sylvan Formula is a blend of Composts, Hardwood Mulch, Basalt, Greensand, Molasses, Cornmeal and inoculated with Aerobic Compost Tea. The blend of compost used in the formula offers both beneficial bacterial and especially fungal microbes and contains no bio-solids (sewer sludge). The compost will percolate down, feeding the plant and providing fungal microorganisms for the soil and plants. The hardwood mulch will protect the soil and root zone from drying out and other extreme conditions. Top-dress your trees and shrubs with a three-inch layer of the Sylvan Formula™. It also works great on perennial beds.

Texas Native Hardwood Mulch

Texas Native Hardwood Mulch has been the number one mulch in this area for many years—it is always beautiful and very consistent. It has been composted so it has very dark, chocolate color. The mulch is produced from indigenous Oak, Cedar and other hardwoods from tree trimming and clearing projects. The Texas Native Hardwood Mulch looks wonderful around trees, shrubs, on perennial beds and wherever you put it.

Pine Bark Mulch

The Pine Bark Mulch is a beautiful, fragrant, auburn colored chipped mulch, about 1-inch in size—not the big chunky pieces. It is a wonderful look in many garden setting, but should not be used on a slope, as it washes away easily. It looks great in a rose garden. The Pine Bark Mulch is "Mother Approved" for use in playscape areas. A thick layer will add a nice cushion for your little ones.

Shredded Cedar

Shredded Cedar is a very coarse mulch with pieces that range in size from one to twelve inches. Its coarse shred does not lend itself well to typical garden beds, but has its place in other areas. It works well for pathways. It provides excellent erosion control. The pieces will mat together and resist washing away. Shredded Cedar Mulch is also good for dog run areas, as it will help prevent Fido from tracking in mud.

Landscapers Mulch

Landscapers Mulch is a finely shredded cedar mulch with a nice, all-natural, reddish-brown color. Ideal for mulching beds and pathways. An attractive mulch that stays in place.

Sands and More

Decomposed Granite

Decomposed Granite is a wonderful product for the garden. We use it in many of our soil and compost mixtures as an amendment to help break up heavy clay soils and provide better drainage. The Decomposed Granite is also a great source of slow-release minerals to help produce sturdier, healthier plants. Another great use for the Decomposed Granite is for walkways or patio areas. Decomposed Granite has been screened to be 1/4-inch and smaller. This allows the pieces to settle down into a nice, firm walkway. The walkways at The Natural Gardener are Decomposed Granite.

Coarse Sand

Coarse Sand is granite sand that can be used as a base for laying a rock or brick patio. It can also be used as a medium for starting cuttings. It is not recommended to mix coarse sand into clay soil; use Revitalizer or Lawn Leveler in this situation.
