A balanced mix of humus1 and manure composts; decomposed granite and other sands; recycled, composted topsoil;2 ground rice hulls; and humates.3 Ideal for vegetable & flower gardens, raised beds and large outdoor planters, roses, native and xeric landscapes, shrubs & trees, and filling for landscapes. For Roses we recommend using Hill Country Garden Soil, top dressing with Revitalizer Compost, and fertilizing with Johns Recipe. Blend Hill Country one-to-one with the existing soil, when possible. For Natives, mix one part Hill Country with two or three parts of the existing soil and use little or no fertilizer. For Trees and Shrubs use the native (existing) soil to back fill, mixed with up to twenty percent Hill Country as an amendment. Energized and Alive.Compost, granite, native topsoil, and humates create an excellent starting medium for all gardens. When fertilizing is necessary, use Lady Bug 8-2-4, Johns Recipe, or other organic amendments. 1Humus compost is made from leaves, twigs, chipped wood and other plant material. It does not contain manures. 2We call our topsoil recycled because it comes from the root balls of trees that are cleared for new construction. Other topsoil is simply mined from the land. The recycled topsoil is blended with organic material and then composted to kill weed seeds and pathogens. 3Humates are ancient, concentrated compost, formed from the remains of plants, animals, and the microbes that decomposed them.
