Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs

Organic food. Slow food. Local food. Food security. If any of those topics are important to you, The Natural Gardener is your nursery. We carry all of the food plants common to the area, as well as hard-to-find heirloom and gourmet varieties. Our herb selection includes both culinary and medicinal species. Whether it’s one plant, or hundreds of acres, we want to help you grow delicious, healthy, organic food.

Annuals

The Natural Gardener stocks a wide variety of colorful, blooming annuals for every season. You’ll find  familiar beauties like Pansies and Marigolds, but also more obscure lovelies like Diascia, Nigella, and Osteospermum.

Perennials

We divide our perennial plants into Sun and Shade lovers, not only to keep them happy, but also to make it easier for you to shop for your specific needs. Whether you need a groundcover that will grow in shade, or a tall accent for a spot in the scorching west sun, our diverse selection of perennials guarantees you’ll find the perfect plant for even the toughest spot in your garden.

Houseplants

Come stroll through our greenhouse – everywhere you look there’s something beautiful. Lush tropical plants surround an old stone fountain, and there are strange succulents and unusual cacti, as well.

Xeric 

We pride ourselves on our ever-expanding selection of drought-tolerant and xeric species. We’re constantly seeking out new and unusual plants including xeric species native to Texas, Mexico, the desert Southwest, and even Australia and Africa.

Grasses

Ornamental grasses are real showstoppers in the garden. We carry native Grasses, as well as other species that are well-adapted to our soils and climate. From low growing varieties like Mexican Feather Grass to large grasses like Giant Zebra Grass, we’ve got some gorgeous grasses.

Vines 

We have vines that provide food and habitat for insects and birds, vines whose leaves change colors with the seasons, vines with extraordinary flowers, and even a few hard-to-find, old-fashioned “my grandmother grew it in her yard” kind of vines.

Roses 

At The Natural Gardener, we sell only antique roses and hardy landscape roses. These varieties produce beautiful flowers, but even without flowers they make handsome, semi-evergreen landscape plants. Best of all, once they’re established, they’re drought tolerant and virtually maintenance free.

Shrubs 

Thousands of plants are considered shrubs, and while don’t stock all of them, we do carry a hundred or so of the best ones for Central Texas. We have evergreen shrubs, deciduous shrubs, shrubs that bloom, and even deer-resistant shrubs. (Not deer-proof, deer-resistant!)

Trees

They give us shade, they clean the air we breathe, they’re beautiful, they increase property values...
Even if you don’t have much room or money, you can still plant a new tree; let us help you choose the right one.  We carry the very best varieties for Central Texas including many native and well-adapted species. We have shade trees, small-scale trees, conifers, palms, ornamentals, and fruit trees.
