Mexican Heather or Wire Grass — Stipa tenuissima
< previous | next >

Commonly known as 'Wire Grass' or 'Mexican Heather Grass' this beautiful native turns heads all summer with it's golden wheat-like tresses made fluid by the merest breath of wind. In full sun, dense green vertical clumps reach 2 feet in height and width, while in the shade a more prostrate habit is adopted, keeping them under a foot in height. Incredibly tolerant of poor, rocky soils and requiring very little water, plant them alone or in rows or large groupings wherever Xeric areas need softening.
